PHOTOGRAPHY CHANGES

There will be some changes happening that I want all of you to be aware of and the reason I have not posted to this blog recently.  First off I have recently settled in the glorious state of North Carolina with my retired husband.  To be more exact the gorgeous area of the northwest Carolina mountain region.  It has taken a while for the move as well as an  adjustment to the area.  Also maybe we have been enjoying the retired life a bit much as well.  So that is the first great change that has occurred.  The next is that this blog will now only represent the Infrared Photography that I so dearly love.  It will discuss any and all changes referencing Infrared as well as shooting techniques and my adventures out in the field.  The next change is there is a new web page called Wehler Photography (linked on this site) that will introduce the range of my photography.  This page will introduce new and exciting photos taken in Full Spectrum and Ultra-violet.  I hope you will find this new photography intriguing and exciting as I have and my willingness to share it with you.  Both sites this blog lsdigitalfineartfx and web page Wehler Photography will offer prints to purchase as well as a way to contact me with your questions and comments.

I will continue as well to shoot and share my photography as this is my passion for life.  I hope all of you will continue with me on this journey to see the world as I see it through the lens of my camera.  Look forward to hearing from all of you….

NEW YEAR and AULD LANG SYNE

Wow, that time of the year again lol, it makes you wonder just how many more opportunities you will be able to make that statement!  So we not only use this date in time to renew what we desire for our future but also to reflect on what we did in the past.  And based on our past is what we always promise to change or do better in the future.  Wouldn’t it be a nice change to just be grateful for our existence, be happy with who and what we are and how we live our lives.  Then at the end and start of a new year we can just revel in the joy that we are here no regrets and no expectations.  So let me begin with HAPPY NEW YEAR AND AULD LANG SYNE!!!!!

How many of us take the opportunity to visit our past and smile a real genuine smile.  I embraced that chance just recently when my husband and I returned to visit old friends and old landmarks.  I felt a joy, peace and happiness of what had been because it helped to mold where I am today and I am real happy to be here.

So my wish to the youth is to look forward to aging for I can really tell you that it is a joy to behold and so much fun.  The restrictions of life are less, the expectations are low, and every day is just a joyous surprise. So HAPPY NEW YEAR and AULD LANG SYNE!

And have you ever thought about how nice it is that Christmas Celebration is at the end of the year right before we celebrate a new one forthcoming.  How wonderful to spend time in joyous celebration with family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances.  What a beautiful time to end on a happy note no matter what has occurred previous in our life.  When we celebrate, people are more welcoming, it is pure enthusiasm of the season.  When else do we dare to share what little we may have with others.  It’s infectious right!

So as we leave the Christmas Season and head into the next year take one last stroll to enjoy the weather, the beauty of the lights  and the compassion of others as they greet you on the streets.  Smile the genuine smile and carry with you the blessing that helping others brings.  HAPPY NEW YEAR and AULD LANG SYNE!

So now today New Years Eve, and the time to party (sometimes a bit too much but hey it’s life) and all those promises we make or resolutions we like to call them are said, and the kiss as the clock strikes midnight, enjoy this last night of 2013.  It has been a great year because we all have been fortunate enough to be here and leave our mark on humanity.  Since the solemn wish is one of Peace, Health and Prosperity let me raise my glass and toast:

Thank you for exisiting. for without all of you being here my life would not have been complete!  The mark you all have left on this world has made my life journey a wild and exciting one leaving me screaming each year whoooooooohooooooo what a ride.  So HAPPY NEW YEAR AND AULD LANG SYNE!

PHOTOS DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE

Every once in a while I like to introduce a museum atmosphere and just give you the reader an opportunity to enjoy my photo shoots.  The photos below are all shot in ultraviolet mode using a full spectrum camera.  It presents photos in a different perspective.  As an art enthusiast and a Fine Art photographer I feel it is my duty to introduce some different photography other than just full color and black and white.

I hope you take the time to not only view the photos but also analyze them, think about the story being presented, and enjoy them as a different way we can see the world and what is in front of us.

TIS THE SEASON

pic of self updated        HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!

Tis the Season for all of us once again to give thanks.  The first people I want to thank beside family is you my faithful readers.  I have enjoyed posting and sharing with you photography secrets, Infrared, Full Spectrum and now ultra-violet news.  And I give thanks every day for the ability to continue to shoot , share and see the world around me in all ranges of color.  I also want to thank all the interesting people I have met along the way on this road of photography as well as on the road to discovery.  As an existentialist part of whom I am is because of who you are so thank you!

I wish for the world and all who reside in it a peaceful and safe journey.  Don’t be afraid to enjoy the ride.  This season make a solemn vow to live the life to its fullest no matter what the circumstances.  To quote in photography terms; take the shot, don’t lead the life of ordinary people caught in a moment of time.  Life shouldn’t be a journey with the intention of arriving to our destination safely but rather skid in sideways totally screaming whoooooooohoooooo what a ride!

Now to share some of my ride; this season is the first of about 30 some years that I had the opportunity to witness a snowfall here in the northwestern Carolina Mts.  I must admit I was like a kid in a candy store and for an old ager it was something to witness ask my husband.  So for those of you who feel life is ageless like I do here are some pics of me with our first snowfall enjoy!!!

Thanks to one and all this Season.

PHOTOGRAPHY IN ULTRA-VIOLET

Over the weekend I found myself traveling about doing errands and took the opportunity to shoot some photography.  I have always expressed to many of my readers to always carry your camera with you no matter what the circumstance.  If any of you were ever a boy or girl scout the motto “Always be prepared” applies to photographers as well.   I have also expressed many times to experiment while shooting your photography because you may never know what may be produced when stepping outside your norm.  Based on the above recommendations I too found myself shooting in such a circumstance.

The photo you will see below was taken while traveling in a vehicle in the Western North Carolina Mountains.  As you are about to see we all know how difficult it is to keep the camera from shaking and bouncing along while in a car.  However, you will also notice that sometimes the camera shake adds a different quality to the photo.  Even tho the shake of a camera does not always look good on some photos but experimenting with an ultra-violet filter while adding the camera shake I think adds a sort of mystical look to the photo below.  Again stepping away from the normal photography can transcend to something unique, don’t you think?

I would like to hear your opinion…….

Mystical Ride

Mystical Ride

The second photo I would like to share with you was also an ultra-violet photo as the one above but shot at a different time and place.  This photo was shot during a color run in Virginia.  My sharing it with you is in keeping with the philosophy stated in the 1st paragraph, “be prepared and step outside your norm”.  The ultra-violet filter presents to us items seen in this photo that may not be able to be seen with the naked eye (see if you can spot them) and as I like to say in a different light.  Light and exposure being two key operative words in this photo you are about to view.  There is something amiss between the two photos even tho they were both shot in ultra-violet.  I hope you can surmise what it is?  As we photographers have come to expect is that light changes throughout the day (time passage) and ordinary light is a friend to color photographers as long as it is not harsh afternoon light.  By stepping outside your norm and experimenting with other filters and different types of cameras your photography can produce other interesting results such as what you will see below.

I love producing different photographs.  It also allows me to push the limits of shooting into light.  I also like to push limits through Infrared, Full Spectrum and Ultra-violet as to what can be seen and unseen through the lens of a camera.  I look forward to sharing more of these truly different and unique views of my world.

Yours always in photography,

Linn

NORTH CAROLINA FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHER HAPPENINGS

The happenings in North Carolina

The happenings in North Carolina

I have been away from this blog because of my new interests.  Basically the new interests include my move to the glorious mountains of northwestern North Carolina and more specifically Transylvania County; the land of waterfalls.  I have also secluded myself to enjoy the passion of shooting pictures once more (we photographers do need to keep updating stock) and not only in Infrared but also Full Spectrum and Ultraviolet.  For many of you whom have kept abreast of this blog and my traveling art show know in-depth about my Infrared Fine Art.  I am now in the process of creating new pieces that include Full Spectrum (meaning cover the range from Infrared, black and white, color and ultraviolet) all in one shot as well as ultraviolet fine art which up to now has really only been used in Forensic (example CSI detect blood etc.) and science or health screen capture of internal organs and of course for those of you into paranormal activity the screening of ghosts.  I however, have been using the ultraviolet capture for creating really unique fantasy pieces.  So as the piece above dictates please keep a close watch on what may be revealed to you over the next several weeks as new pieces are revealed not only in the original Infrared (my main stay) but also in Full Spectrum and Ultraviolet.

Not to leave you hanging I have included two samples of what I have been talking about in the above paragraph.  This first piece is a small sample of a full spectrum shot.  For you Photoshop gurus out there no manipulation.  This was taken with a Panasonic converted camera to absorb the full range of colors.  See if you are able to spot the range yourself.

October Splendor

The look is kind of amazing isn’t it?  The next picture is a sample of Ultraviolet photography.  It was taken with the same camera that was used above only a filter was attached to block out all other colors but ultraviolet.  The picture is a bit eerie or somewhat surreal some would say.  I would be interested in your opinion of this ultraviolet photography.

A glimpse behind the curtain.

A glimpse behind the curtain.

Both of the above photography will be showcased at my new spring shows as well as the Infrared Photography which is the main stay of my work.  I will be keeping you informed of where my shows will be so please keep checking back for that information.  I will also be showing new pieces of the Ultraviolet and Full spectrum photography on my gallery located on this blog.  In future posts I will also be going a little bit more in-depth regarding the aspects of Full Spectrum and Ultraviolet photography.  So if you may have questions about how this kind of photography is achieved or shot please feel free to contact me.  I will then be able to address any questions either directly on the blog or in person.

I just want to leave you with this: as a photographer as in any profession one needs to follow his or her passion.  The passion is not or should not be dictated by relevance, popularity or what is in fashion at the time.  The passion comes from what you want your page of life to read (a bit of existentialism here) meaning we all contribute to this life and your passion is a part of that contribution.  PASSION: FOLLOW IT; ENHANCE IT; BELIEVE IT and most of all LIVE IT!!!!

FULL SPECTRUM FALL

fullspectrumfall

This time of the year (Fall) was always my favorite time when I was growing up.  The crispness in the air the leaves and their colors was mesmerizing to me as a youngster.  I have been away too long from the wonder and magic this time of the year holds.

I have spent the past 20 plus years in the warm sunny climate of Tampa Florida.  And as much as I have enjoyed every wonder that the Southern climate holds and it’ s varied activities; I have forgotten the wonders and beauty of Fall.  I am now fortunate enough to live in the beautiful western North Carolina Mountains.  As a Professional Photographer it is a dream come true to live here because of the beauty the mountains are to photograph.  It also allows me more creativity since I also now shoot in Full Spectrum.

So when you are able to combine the colors of fall with the expressiveness of Full Spectrum which combines not only color but Infrared as well as ultraviolet; you can create a wonder which is shown in the above photo.

I have fallen in love with Fall again.

FUN ACTIVITIES COLOR RUN

colorunfinishedpiece

I know this is a harrowing week for all of us with everything that is happening with our government right now especially for those of us who have family members that work at the Smithsonian me included.  However we need to focus on other things that make our life worthwhile; for me it is photography and shooting an amazing event that my daughter participated in.

For those of you who are runners I know of the 5k and marathons but this event known as a color run is just simply amazing.  For the uninformed it is a non timed 5k anyone can participate in, no matter what age and it is just fun while accomplishing a completed act in dazzling color.  The color you may ask is thrown from packets or sprayed in the air on you as you run.  To me what a great way to celebrate art.  My favorite artist Jackson Pollock would have been so proud.

I loved being a part of this event if only as an observer.  I came to photograph my daughter as she completed a great run (typical parent) but became witness to an amazing blaze of color as runners were pelted with color as they ran.  Then to my further amazement congregated in front of a stage to music and having more color thrust upon then to cheers and wanting more.

Now I am telling you all this for several reasons; first I love to see adults, teens and youngsters enjoy the wonder of being a child if only for a moment; second to see them drenched in color as they have become their own masterpiece is a joy to behold (maybe they learn to appreciate the great masters); and thirdly I got to photograph this wild event in full spectrum photography.  I was in seventh heaven.

I have included one pic to give you all a preview of what is possible not only in this event but also the possibility that full spectrum photography provides.  Enjoy; more photos of this event will be forthcoming.

Linn

IT ALL STARTS WITH A PHOTOGRAPH

I have attached courtesy of stumble upon several of the original photographs of Norman Rockwell’s famous paintings.  I do this to show what a little bit of imagination can produce. How many times have you heard that a picture is worth a thousand words.  So remember that sage advice the next time you raise the camera to take a shot.  Produce your own story ; make sure the observer of your photograph asks the 5 pertinent questions of every story, who, what, where, when and how.  Every great photograph engages the person viewing it, then and only then can it be referred to as Fine Art.
So the next time you hear “click” what story will you be telling?
View the photos below and jump start your imagination.
